Bengaluru, June 3 -- Senior Congress leader G. Parameshwara is set to be appointed Deputy Chief Minister in the new government headed by Chief Minister-designate D. K. Shivakumar, according to party insiders.

The move comes as the Congress leadership finalised the composition of the new Karnataka Cabinet ahead of the swearing-in ceremony scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Parameshwara, a veteran Dalit leader and former Karnataka Congress president, emerged as the frontrunner for the Deputy Chief Minister's post after extensive consultations among the party's central and state leadership. Sources indicated that he is likely to be the sole Deputy Chief Minister in the new administration.
