Panchkula, Aug. 27 -- Market associations in Panchkula have agreed to take responsibility for regular sweeping of their market areas, while shopkeepers and vendors will be required to keep dustbins and hand over waste only to the Municipal Corporation's authorised door-to-door collection agency, as the civic body looks for alternative ways to maintain sanitation amid the ongoing statewide strike by sanitation workers.
The arrangement was worked out at a meeting convened by Municipal Commissioner Vinay Kumar with representatives of various market associations on Wednesday.
Under the agreed system, shopkeepers and vendors will not be allowed to dump garbage at common places or create garbage accumulation points in markets.
