Islamabad, Sept. 10 -- The Pakistan Foreign Office said Thursday that the Makkah Defence Alliance between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye is "defensive" in nature and that expansion of the pact was for the moment, not at the table amid Bangladesh openly displaying interest in joining the Islamic alliance.
Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan made the remarks during a weekly press briefing, and called the agreement as primarily a "defensive alliance to ensure regional security primarily through deterrence".
Khan said that "Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye must first further consolidate their organisation and cooperation," adding that the agreement could later be opened to countries with similar positions and perspectives.
