Mumbai, June 5 -- Veteran film producer, distributor and former chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Pahlaj Nihalani will be remembered as a key figure in shaping and popularising mainstream Hindi commercial cinema from the 1980s through the 1990s.
He played an important role in giving a new identity to commercial films and taking them to a wider audience.
Born in Karachi (now Pakistan) on January 10, 1950, Nihalani's family migrated to India after the Partition of India and settled in Mumbai. It was there that he began his journey in the film industry and gradually established himself as a successful producer in the Hindi film industry.
