Shimla, June 28 -- A total of 50,454 children below the age of five were administered oral polio vaccine (OPV) on the first day of the National Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign across Himachal Pradesh's Shimla district on Sunday.

According to the Health Department, 704 Pulse Polio booths were set up across the district to administer the life-saving vaccine. The campaign witnessed active participation from the Health Department, other government departments, voluntary organisations and the public.

A special OPV booth was also established at the Shoghi police barrier, where buses and other vehicles carrying tourists were stopped to ensure that eligible children received polio drops. Local artists also presented cultural performances featur...
