Vijayawada, Aug. 14 -- The Stree Shakti free bus travel scheme to women which was launched on August 15, 2025 has received overwhelming response from women and on average 24 lakh women travel in APSRTC buses every day.
Since the launch of free bus service to women, over 87 crore journeys have been made by the women in the state under the scheme. The government is providing a subsidy of Rs 8.53 crore per day towards women's travel. In the one year since its implementation, the AP government has spent Rs. 3,095 crore on the scheme.
The 'Stree Shakti' scheme is being implemented in five categories of APSRTC buses - Express, Ultra Pallevelugu, Pallevelugu, Metro Express and City Ordinary. Of the total 9,978 APSRTC buses, 76 per cent, or 7,631...
