Jammu, July 29 -- More than 2,000 Shri Amarnath Yatra pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu for the cave shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas amid rain on Wednesday.
According to officials, a group of 2,051 pilgrims departed for the Baltal base camp in a convoy of 82 vehicles under elaborate security arrangements.
No convoy was dispatched for the Pahalgam route, they said.
The annual pilgrimage is scheduled to conclude on August 28, coinciding with the festival of Raksha Bandhan.
So far, more than 4 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine.
