New Delhi, June 15 -- More than 15,000 citizens joined a massive cleanliness drive along the Yamuna on Monday as the Delhi Government launched the "Maa Yamuna Tat Swachhta Abhiyan" across 28 major ghats, removing 116.6 metric tonnes of waste in one of the capital's largest citizen-led river cleaning initiatives.
The campaign, organised simultaneously at multiple locations along the river, brought together resident welfare associations (RWAs), non-governmental organisations (NGOs), students, volunteers, community groups and government officials in a concerted effort to restore the ecological and cultural significance of the Yamuna.
