Abu Dhabi, April 1 -- More than 1,200 Iranian citizens from Dubai have returned to Iran since the US-Israeli strikes began on February 28.

At least 1,262 Iranians living in Dubai have returned to Iran in 32 days amid rising regional tensions, according to the semiofficial Tasnim news agency.

With direct flights to Iran closed, the returnees have flown via Afghanistan and Armenia.

The Iranian government has submitted a request to the UAE to transfer more of its citizens via ship, as well as a dedicated flight route.

This development comes after Dubai-based airlines Emirates and Flydubai have said Iranian nationals are not allowed to enter or transit through the UAE.
