Mumbai, June 1 -- The Maharashtra government's decision to remove nearly 80 lakh women beneficiaries from the Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana over non-compliance with e-KYC requirements has evoked sharp criticism from opposition leaders today.
Senior Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar faction) leader Jayant Patil alleged that the move reflects the state's worsening financial condition.
In a post on social media, Patil claimed that the scheme was launched on a large-scale ahead of the State Assembly elections following the ruling alliance's poor performance in the Lok Sabha polls.
He argued that disqualifying such a large number of beneficiaries now raises serious questions about the government's intentions.
