Chennai, Sept. 11 -- Banking services across India, including Tamil Nadu, were crippled on Friday as the public sector bank employees and officers stayed away from work in view of the day-long nation-wide strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU)--an umbrella body of seven major unions--to press their demands, including immediate implementation of five day work weekas agreed by IBA in the March 2024 bilateral agreement.
Reports received here said more than eight lakh bank employees were participating in today's strike across the nation.
In view of today's strike, which happened to be a Friday, it would be an extended holiday. All the PSU banks would be shut for four days from today--strike, weekend holidays and Vinayaka Chat...
