Manmad, Aug. 28 -- Amid a sudden rise in onion prices across the country, the Centre has decided to release onions procured through the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation (NCCF) to help bring prices under control.
Following the dispatch of the first Onion Express from Lasalgaon to Delhi, another special train is now being prepared at Manmad railway station to transport around 800 metric tonnes of onions to Chennai. Loading operations are underway at the railway goods shed, with onions being loaded into 21 wagons. The train is expected to leave for Chennai by Friday evening.
