Chennai, Sept. 5 -- A worker was killed in an explosion at a private cracker manufacturing unit at Othayal village near Sattur in Virudhunagar district on Saturday.
The blast occurred at the Chinnathambi Fireworks unit, where workers were engaged in making crackers.
A fire broke out due to friction which handling chemicals, resulting in the blast.
Fire service personnel rushed to the spot , brought the blaze under control, and retrieved the body of the worker, who was identified as Madasamy, and shifted it to government hospital for autopsy.
Officials faced difficulties in carrying out rescue operations as crackers stored in the unit kept exploding intermittently.
