Chennai, Sept. 28 -- The Madras High Court on Monday dismissed an election petition filed by former minister and DMK leader K.R.Periakaruppan challenging the victory of ruling TVK candidate R.Seenivasa Sethupathi by one vote in the Tirupattur Assemblyseat in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu.
Passing orders, Mr.Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan, who had reserved orders earlier this month, today dismissed the plea.
The court allowed Sethupathi's petition seeking dismissal of the election case after his counsel argued that Assembly constituencies are identified by their numbers and not merely by their names, and that postal ballot covers clearly carry the constituency number, name and district.
