Washington, Aug. 18 -- Oman remains a key intermediary in efforts to ease tensions between the United States and Iran and reopen shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, as threats from US President Donald Trump against the Gulf state add further uncertainty to already fragile diplomatic efforts.
Democratic US Senator Mark Kelly described Oman as a "critical negotiator with Iran" and questioned the wisdom of threatening a country that has played an important role in regional diplomacy.
