Washington/Tehran, July 22 -- Oil prices climbed to 4% on Wednesday, with international benchmark Brent crude briefly rising above $95 a barrel, extending gains of around $20 since fighting between the US and Iran resumed on July 7.

The increase came as commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remained severely disrupted despite repeated assurances from CENTCOM that the strategic waterway remains open.

Iran has continued attacks on vessels transiting the strait, while also targeting US allies across the Gulf and elsewhere in West Asia, heightening concerns over global energy supplies.
