Bhubaneswar, April 28 -- In what lays bare an abysmal lack of banking awareness by people living in rural parts of the State, a tribal man in Odisha's Keonjhar district turned up at a bank with his deceased sister's skeletal remains to claim over Rs 19,300 of his sibling's savings.

The unsavory incident occurred at an Odisha Gramya Bank branch in the Patna area. Little knowing the banking rules, Jitu Munda came with the skeletal remains as proof of his sister's death. The bankers had, however, asked him earlier to furnish his sister's death certificate and legal heir certificate to get the money saved by his deceased sister in the savings account.

His sister Kalra Munda had incidentally passed away about two months back.
