Bhubaneswar, April 27 -- The Odisha government has launched an ambitious initiative to train 2,000 lifeguards over the next two to three years, aiming to build a strong and scalable safety framework for the state's growing water-based tourism sector.

The trained personnel will be strategically deployed at key tourist destinations, including Puri Beach and Chandrabhaga Beach, along with other prominent coastal and inland sites across the state.

As part of this initiative, a comprehensive residential training programme has been launched at the Odisha State Watermanship and Lifeguard Institute (OSWALI) in Konark. The first batch began training on Monday, marking the start of an intensive capacity-building exercise.
