Bhubaneswar, July 30 -- Odisha on Thursday sounded a medium flood alert in the Mahanadi river basin and placed the administrations of Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada districts on high alert as rising river levels threatened to trigger flooding in several coastal areas.

State Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected districts of Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Kendujhar to assess the damage caused by incessant rainfall triggered by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.
