Bhubaneswar, Sept. 8 -- Odisha's rich irrigation heritage will receive a major boost with the state Cabinet approving the Rs 650-crore Building Odisha's Irrigation Project Tourism Amenities (BOITA) scheme to preserve historic water-management structures and promote tourism and regional development.
The scheme, approved by the Cabinet on Monday, will be implemented by the Water Resources Department over five years, from 2026-27 to 2030-31.
Official sources said on Tuesday that the initiative aims to preserve and revive historic irrigation structures, showcase Odisha's traditional water-management practices and create new socio-economic opportunities around the state's irrigation heritage.
