Bhubaneswar, Oct. 14 -- Shubhalakshmi Mahananda is steering a quiet change in Odisha's public transport sector.

As the state's first woman electric bus driver, she takes the wheel every morning at the Ama Bus depot in Kendujhar, challenging long-standing gender stereotypes and demonstrating how the transition to cleaner mobility can open up new opportunities for women.

An electric bus driver with Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), Shubhalakshmi has entered a profession traditionally dominated by men, proving that driving a passenger bus is not exclusively a man's job.

Her journey reflects the growing scope for women to pursue careers in non-traditional fields as India moves towards more sustainable and inclusive transport systems.
