Bhubaneswar, Aug. 10 -- A 41-year-old man from Odisha's Balangir district was allegedly abandoned by his family even after death over his inter-caste marriage, with local volunteers stepping in to perform the last rites.
The deceased, Manoj Bagarti, a native of Salepali, had married Madhumita Sahu, a speech-impaired woman from another caste, nearly eight years ago.
Following the marriage, the couple was allegedly ostracised by Manoj's family and had been living at Madhumita's parental home in Tikrapada.
Manoj, who had been undergoing treatment for an illness, died recently.
His widow subsequently informed his parents and relatives about his sudden death.
