Bhubaneswar, Sept. 6 -- The Odisha government has stepped up enforcement of its decision to revise the English spellings of place names to match their Odia pronunciation, directing all district Collectors to ensure that the new spellings are used uniformly on government signboards and nameplates.

Revenue and Disaster Management Department Additional Chief Secretary Dr Aravinda Kumar Padhee has asked the Collectors to review all signboards of government offices and institutions in their respective districts and ensure that the approved spellings are used without deviation.

The directive comes against the backdrop of the State Cabinet's decision to standardise English spellings of place names in keeping with their Odia pronunciation. While ...
