Bhubaneswar, June 9 -- The Odisha government on Tuesday granted tax-free status to the Odia film Meher Munda, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Nikunja Hota.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi approved a proposal to exempt the film from entertainment tax, recognising its contribution to promoting Odisha's rich cultural and handloom heritage.

Released on May 15, 2026, Meher Munda chronicles the life, struggles, resilience and achievements of Odisha's handloom weaving community. The film offers a poignant portrayal of the socio-economic realities faced by traditional weavers while celebrating their craftsmanship, perseverance and invaluable contribution to the state's cultural identity.
