Bhubaneswar, Aug. 1 -- Around eight lakh people have been affected by the ongoing floods in Odisha, while 2.69 lakh people have been shifted to safer locations, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Saturday, asserting that the flood situation is steadily improving and floodwaters are likely to recede within the next two days.

After conducting an aerial survey of flood-hit areas across more than 12 blocks in five districts, Majhi said numerous villages remain marooned but the situation is gradually returning to normal.

He was accompanied by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari and the Special Relief Commissioner.
