Bhubaneswar, July 14 -- The Odisha Cabinet on Tuesday approved the extension of the Setu Bandhan Yojana (SBY) till 2030-31 and sanctioned an outlay of Rs 11,800 crore for the construction of 1,750 new bridges and completion of 1,417 ongoing bridge projects across the state.
The Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, approved the proposal considering the need to strengthen rural connectivity and improve the socio-economic conditions of people living in rural areas.
The Setu Bandhan Yojana was initially launched by the state government as the Biju Setu Yojana (BSY) in 2011-12 with the objective of bridging missing links on roads under the Rural Development Department.
