Bhubaneswar, March 2 -- In a significant breakthrough in its sustained campaign against Left-wing extremism, Odisha Police has achieved a historic milestone by declaring two western districts free from Naxal influence.
Director General of Police Y. B. Khurania officially announced that Bolangir district and Bargarh district are now Naxal-free.
The declaration follows the surrender of 15 Maoists from Mahasamund district, which shares a border with Bargarh.
The surrendered cadres were reportedly active in the Bargarh-Bolangir-Mahasamund division. With their return to the mainstream, authorities confirmed the complete elimination of Naxal activities in the two districts.
