Bhubaneswar, June 17 -- Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Bhakta Charan Das has demanded a public apology from the state's School and Mass Education Minister over alleged large-scale errors in newly introduced school textbooks.

Describing the issue as a serious setback to the education system, Das in a statement here alleged that the textbooks for Classes I to VIII contain as many as 1,678 errors and factual inaccuracies.

He termed the development a "mockery of the state's education system" and said it amounted to an insult to Odisha's history, geography and cultural identity.
