Bhubaneswar, June 18 -- Taking a tough stand against prolonged absenteeism among government doctors, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday directed the Health Department to initiate disciplinary proceedings against medical personnel who have remained absent from duty without authorization.

Official sources said that a total of 128 Medical Officers and Dental Surgeons posted across various government hospitals in the state have remained absent from service for more than five years.

These doctors were absent from their respective workplaces for extended periods and failed to provide healthcare services to patients.
