Bhubaneswar, July 20 -- Odisha Government has activated a comprehensive State Contingency Plan to address the prevailing low rainfall situation and assured people that coordinated measures are in place to protect agriculture, and maintain uninterrupted power supply despite reduced inflows into major reservoirs, including Balimela and Machkund.

Chairing a high-level review meeting on Monday, Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singh Deo directed officials to adopt a cautious and coordinated approach to navigate the dry spell. He instructed the departments concerned to maintain optimum reservoir storage levels and conserve water primarily for drinking and irrigation before allocating it for hydroelectric power generation.
