Bhubaneswar, Sept. 3 -- A designated Vigilance Court on Thursday convicted a retired IAS officer and former Dhenkanal Collector Nityananda Mohanty and two others in a corruption case over the approval of higher-than-prescribed transportation rates for wheat and rice, causing a loss of around Rs 9 lakh to the government exchequer.

The Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal, sentenced Mohanty, former DRDA Project Director Suryanarayan Das and transport contractor Satyananda Balasamanta to one year of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine on each of them.
