Bhubaneswar, April 27 -- The bid to marry off a minor girl in contravention of legal provisions was averted in the Chakeisiani area of the city today following prompt intervention by the members of the Ruchika Social Welfare Organization here.
The groom was 24-year-old and was legally permitted to marry while the bride was a minor girl and was not of marriageable age.
As per instructions from district coordinator Shibani Nayak, organization members Harapriya Pati, Ajay Maharana, and Ghanashyam Bhoi rushed to the Sai Temple vicinity in Chakeisiani. They were informed that a minor girl from the area was being taken to Nayagarh to marry a 24-year-old youth.
