New Delhi, Sept. 8 -- Indian children who were undernourished or at risk of undernutrition showed greater gains in height, lean mass and indicators of bone health when oral nutritional supplementation was combined with dietary counselling, compared with dietary counselling alone, according to findings from a six-month randomized controlled trial.

The study, involving 223 children aged about 3 to 7 years with picky eating habits, found that those receiving nutritional supplementation recorded approximately 2.4 times greater height gain and nearly 15% higher lean mass gain over six months than children who received dietary counselling alone. The trial was conducted in India between August 2023 and May 2024.
