Kolkata, June 8 -- A government notice served on an old age home associated with Canning West MLA Paresh Ram Das has triggered fresh controversy in West Bengal's South 24-Parganas district, with the administration seeking explanations over alleged filling up of wetlands and construction on the char lands of the Matla River.
According to official sources, notices have been issued not only to the Chandmoni Old Age Home but also to several adjoining establishments in the area. The sub-divisional administration has sought details on how structures were developed on what it described as wetland and riverine land.
The issue has acquired political significance as the old age home is closely linked to MLA Paresh Ram Das.
