Thiruvananthapuram, May 30 -- A fresh confrontation appears to be brewing between Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and the newly-elected Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government following the Governor's policy address in the Kerala Assembly on Friday.

The controversy erupted after the Governor publicly expressed dissatisfaction over the manner in which 'Vande Mataram' was rendered before his address to the Assembly.

Governor Arlekar stated that official protocol mandates the complete rendition of 'Vande Mataram' whenever it is sung or played instrumentally in the presence of the Governor during an official function.

He said Lok Bhavan had conveyed this position to the government in advance.
