Nagpur, March 17 -- In a major relief for parents across Maharashtra, the state government has clarified that no child will be denied admission under the Right to Education (RTE) Act on the grounds of distance.

The decision comes in response to concerns over earlier norms that restricted admissions to schools within a specified radius.

Relaxing the criteria, the government has now stated that children who are unable to secure admission in nearby schools will be accommodated in institutions located beyond the prescribed distance.

Officials emphasised that the primary objective is to ensure that every eligible child benefits from the 25 per cent RTE quota in private unaided schools, irrespective of the distance from their residence.
