Thiruvananthapuram, March 8 -- Nine fishermen were rescued in a swift operation by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) after their fishing boat sank in the Arabian Sea off the Vizhinjam coast, while a search is underway for two fishermen reported missing.
The fishermen were evacuated by Coast Guard Ship Anagh after an alert was received by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mumbai at around 1.45 pm on March 7 regarding the sinking of an Indian fishing boat off the Kanyakumari coast.
Acting on the distress message, the Coast Guard immediately dispatched the vessel from Vizhinjam. The ship reached the location, about 80 nautical miles off Vizhinjam, and rescued nine fishermen who had been taken aboard the merchant vessel MT Solis.
