Mumbai, Aug. 20 -- Nine fishermen were rescued safely after their fishing vessel Vinayak developed a serious water ingress and began sinking outside the JNPT channel , officials said on Thursday.
According to officials, in the afternoon of Aug 19 the vessel, bearing registration number IND-MH-MM-07-3350, started taking in substantial quantities of water, resulting in flooding of its engine room. The engine subsequently stalled, leaving the vessel adrift and raising fears of a possible capsizing.
Acting swiftly on receiving the distress information, personnel from Yellow Gate Police launched a rescue operation to avert any untoward incident.
