Dimapur, Sept. 13 -- At least nine people were reported dead in Tuensang civil hospital in the last three days after consuming suspected spurious liquor, prompting DGP Rupin Sharma to issue a red alert asking people to abstain from consuming liquor.

The individuals reportedly complained of breathlessness after consuming the adulterated alcohol, causing their deaths.

Though the circumstances leading to the deaths are yet to be officially ascertained, DGP Sharma said the victims reportedly succumbed to what is suspected to be spurious liquor.

In a Facebook post, he said the deaths were suspected to be linked to spurious liquor, specifically suspected rum, calling them alarming.
