New Delhi, April 28 -- As India braces for another spell of intense heat, with temperatures breaching the 40-degree mark in most parts of the country, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday urged Delhi and 21 states across the country to take early action to protect the most vulnerable populations from the impact of heat waves.

In an official communication to the chief secretaries, the Commission drew attention to the rise in the frequency, duration, and intensity of heat waves, which are particularly affecting the marginalised, economically weaker sections, outdoor workers, and the homeless, segments that are part of India's informal sector.
