New Delhi, Sept. 8 -- The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the Delhi government and the University Grants Commission (UGC) to work with Delhi University (DU) on a time-bound plan to address the acute shortage of affordable hostel accommodation for students, particularly those arriving in the national capital from other parts of the country.
The intervention comes days after the collapse of a multi-storey building in South Delhi's Satya Niketan area, where a boys' paying guest accommodation was operating. Seven people were killed and several others were injured in the incident.
