Kochi, Sept. 21 -- A new fortnightly shipping service connecting Cochin with key destinations in the Middle East has commenced operations from Cochin Port, providing exporters and importers in southern India with direct access to markets in the UAE, Oman and Yemen.
The MGR IFR Service connects Cochin in Kerala and Nhava Sheva in Maharashtra with Fujairah in the UAE, Sohar in Oman and Aden in Yemen, strengthening shipping connectivity and offering faster cargo movement to the region.
The service is operated by two vessels, M.V. Marsa Virgo and M.V. Marsa Zenith, each with a capacity of more than 500 TEUs per voyage. The inaugural call of M.V. Marsa Virgo at DP World Cochin saw the terminal handle more than 1,000 TEUs.
