Siliguri, Aug. 27 -- Former Sikkim minister Tseten Tashi Bhutia has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to scrap the proposed new hydro-electric projects on Sikkim's rivers in the wake of the massive devastation caused by sudden flooding in neighbouring Nepal.
In a social media post, Bhutia expressed solidarity with the government and people of Nepal and offered condolences to the families affected by the flood disaster.
He said the tragedy had once again highlighted the vulnerability of the Himalayan region.
