Tehran, May 10 -- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Sunday that the very basis of engaging in negotiations with the United States is to secure the country's rights and firmly defend national interests, asserting that dialogue should not be interpreted as "surrender or retreat."Pezeshkian said the Iranian nation "will never bow before the enemy," as reported by the Iranian state media.

"If there is any talk of dialogue or negotiation, it does not mean surrender or backing down, but rather the goal is to secure the rights of the Iranian nation and powerfully defend national interests," he said at a meeting of a task force focussed on the reconstruction efforts of damages caused by what he referred to as the "third imposed war".
