Glasgow, Aug. 1 -- India celebrated a memorable double podium finish in the men's javelin throw at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday IST, with Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra clinching silver and Yashvir Singh producing a sensational last-round effort to snatch bronze, though Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage denied the country a golden finish with a brilliant championship-winning throw.

Competing in his first major championship after an injury-interrupted season, Neeraj looked set to reclaim the Commonwealth title he had won in 2018 when he unleashed a season-best throw of 85.83 metres in the second round. The effort briefly put the Indian atop the standings and rekindled hopes of another gold.

Those hopes, however, were short-lived.
