Kolkata, April 18 -- : The Election Commission has said that there has been a significant rise in the number of new voters in West Bengal, with nearly seven lakh names added to the electoral roll in the past one month.

According to official data released by the commission, a total of 6,96,824 new voters were enrolled up to April 9, the last date for filing nominations for the second phase of polling.

The Commission said that around seven lakh applications were submitted through Form-6 during the period between the draft publication and the nomination deadlines for the two phases.

Out of these, the majority have been accepted, leading to the recent surge in voter numbers.

The total number of voters in the state now stands at 6,82,51,008....
