Kolkata, March 5 -- In the past five days, judicial officers tasked with examining cases of "logical discrepancies" in the electoral rolls have disposed of over 4.5 lakh disputed voter entries in West Bengal till Wednesday evening, raising concerns over the more than 56 lakh cases that still remain pending and need to be resolved in the coming days.

According to Election Commission sources, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise has so far led to the deletion of nearly 63 lakh names from the voter list across the state.

The names were removed on various grounds, including death of voters, migration, prolonged absence, or duplication where the same person was found to be registered in more than one location.
