Mumbai, July 9 -- The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) legislature unit has formally urged the Maharashtra government to recommend the late Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar for the posthumous conferment of the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian honor.

NCP's Chief Whip in the Assembly, Chetan Tupe, submitted a formal letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday, signed by the entire contingent of NCP MLAs and MLCs. The request seeks an immediate proposal from the state government to the Centre, honoring the late leader for his decades of monumental service to Maharashtra.
