Srinagar, May 16 -- Tanvir Sadiq, a leader of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and MLA, said on Saturday that the ruling party would soon move to ban alcohol in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that it understood public sentiment, particularly in Kashmir, on the issue.
The remarks came amid growing political debate in Jammu and Kashmir over the sale and consumption of alcohol, with several political parties and religious organisations demanding a complete prohibition across the union Territory. A day earlier the BJP too demanded a ban on the liquor. Party leaders and workers protested at Srinagar's Gupkar Road, leading up to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's residence, seeking the ban the alcohol.
