Srinagar, March 12 -- The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Thursday strongly condemned the assassination attempt on its president and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, passing a resolution denouncing the attack and demanding a fair and impartial probe into the incident.

Party leaders also staged a protest at the party headquarters in Srinagar.

The veteran politician Abdullah had a narrow escape on Wednesday night after a man fired a gunshot from close range towards him. Abdullah, who was attending a wedding in Jammu, escaped unhurt.
